OpenG2P at Global DPI Summit 2024

01-03 October 2024, Cairo, Egypt

OpenG2P had a great experience at the inaugural Global DPI Summit 2024 co-hosted by Co-Develop in Cairo, Egypt.

The event brought together thought leaders, policymakers, technology experts, and various stakeholders delegates from over 100 countries serving as a global stage to hold discussions and share perspectives on the impact of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) on furthering Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Over the three inspiring days, our Chief Technology Officer, Puneet Joshi had the opportunity to participate in conversations and panels about the role of DPI in Disaster Relief and Food Security and Daas as a mechanism for rapid DPI rollouts.

We had the chance to meet face-to-face with partners and stakeholders to discuss possibilities at our booth.

OpenG2P hosted a session focused on the role of DPI in disaster relief efforts at the Global DPI Summit in Cairo, Egypt. The conversation centred on how DPI can enhance response strategies and drive better outcomes in times of crisis. Case studies from Sudan and Mozambique were examined, illustrating how digital solutions can address critical challenges during emergencies. Insights from UNDP and UNHCR were presented and an interesting concept of "Loss Potential Wallet” was discussed, which is currently piloted in India.

The session helped us understand how DPGs can work collaboratively and enhance our collective capacity to respond to disasters.

As a part of the panel that discussed addressing current global food insecurity with DPI by improving agricultural productivity, streamlining supply chains, and enhancing market access for vulnerable communities, we showcased a real use case of how the DPI approach can address some concerns around food insecurity. We also highlighted the exponential impact digital systems can have if designed with an architecture approach to support and transform how we manage food systems, ensuring efficiency and sustainability. It was inspiring to see how DPI can contribute meaningfully to global food security.

The focused dialogue/ consultative session on DaaS as a mechanism for rapid DPI rollouts. Experts highlighted key insights, challenges, and best practices in implementing DPI, fostering collaboration and shared learning among global stakeholders. With DaaS, countries can quickly validate success, building momentum for larger rollouts.

Puneet shared OpenG2P's experience in offering one of the modules (ID Mapper / SPAR) as a DaaS offering based on learnings from the catalogue created by CDPI that describes the requirements in countries for various DPI blocks.

We appreciate CDPI’s efforts to raise awareness in governments about DPI and make them aware of the various packaged products.

Events like the Global DPI Summit 2024 are a great way to showcase our work, engage in conversations and foster strategic partnerships. We look forward to being part of the next edition of the event.
