Year-End Round Up
As 2024 comes to a close, we reflect on the milestones and experiences that defined the year – moments that shaped our perspective, collaborations that strengthened our presence, individuals who fueled our goals, and progress that reaffirmed our purpose. For OpenG2P, 2024 was a year of all this and more.
It was a year of building connections, showcasing our work, engaging in panels and discussions, sharing and acquiring knowledge, advancing our software development, and celebrating the successful completion of pilots that paved the way for the impact we aspire to achieve.
OpenG2P kicked off 2024 by partnering with Co-Develop to advance our mission of creating inclusive and efficient Government-to-Person (G2P) delivery systems worldwide. This investment supports our efforts to provide customised solutions, build local capacity, and offer technical assistance for national-scale implementations in countries.
As a Digital Public Good, OpenG2P provides ready-to-deploy G2P delivery building blocks , fosters local capacity building, and supports ecosystem development. The renewal of our DPGA listing for 2024 not only validated our systems and processes but also reinforced our credibility and impact in the field.
OpenG2P and Countries
OpenG2P’s solutions have immense potential in mitigating climate change and crisis responses. This year’s initiated collaborations with countries such as Ethiopia, Nigeria, Zambia, the Philippines, and India focused on harnessing technology to modernise G2P benefit delivery in fast, efficient, and effective ways.
OpenG2P in Ethiopia
3 Government Department Relationships | 3 Successful Pilots
Initiation of Returnee Programme
A media launch event in Addis Ababa in November 2024 celebrated the successful completion of the OpenG2P production pilots with The Ministry of Women and Social Affairs (MOWSA) and the Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI).
The event was attended by senior delegates of the Ethiopian government, including Her Excellency Huria Ali, State Minister of MoWSA, Firew Tegegne Amogne, Deputy DG of ATI, and Yodahe Zemichael, Executive Director of NIDP, along with OpenG2P leadership, cementing a relationship that will take OpenG2P’s work with MoWSA and ATI forward in the coming years.
OpenG2P is also working with The Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission (EDRMC) for disaster relief and to support returnees.
In 2024, OpenG2P initiated relationships and active programmes with three departments in Ethiopia to support their FAYDA-enabled digital transformation journey through various projects.
01 OpenG2P and the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI)
A Digital Farmer Registry was established this year, featuring uniquely identified smallholder farmers and detailed farm information. This registry enables agricultural program systems to enhance the delivery of targeted advisory services while streamlining data collection and sharing across platforms.
02 OpenG2P and The Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission (EDRMC)
Data collection and management was digitised using OpenG2P’s Program and Beneficiary Management System which enables the tracking of benefits disbursement. This enhances the efficiency of disaster relief delivery and improves the planning and coordination of response efforts.
OpenG2P is also working with EDRMC on an upcoming rollout for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The EDRMC Returnee Programme is another significant area where OpenG2P is helping facilitate the immediate delivery of benefits. Initiated in 2024, the ongoing project provides post-arrival assistance, including food, cash, and transportation, to deported individuals. Fast and accurate identification and verification through Laissez Passer documents ensures a streamlined and efficient process. Every week, the OpenG2P continues to register and help a large number of returnees.
03 OpenG2P and The Ministry of Women and Social Affairs (MOWSA)
In 2024, OpenG2P initiated the development of a National Social Registry and implemented a Program and Beneficiary Management System, enabling digital cash transfers and seamless data exchange between MoWSA and other departments. This will greatly improve the efficiency of delivering and managing Social Protection Programmes.
Other Significant Country Engagements
In 2024, OpenG2P began working with the Government of Telangana in India to leverage the OpenG2P Registry to issue Family IDs to over 8 million families.
In one of its newest relationships, OpenG2P’s engagement in Zambia aims to use OpenG2P to streamline Government-to-Person (G2P) payments to those impacted by drought.
OpenG2P Partner Programme
OpenG2P’s commitment to open-source and community-driven innovations drives us to build and nurture partnerships as an offering to adopting countries. Through the newly initiated OpenG2P Partner Programme, we have onboarded five System Integrators and continue to work on more partners in the coming year.
OpenG2P Capacity Building
Capacity building is one of OpenG2P’s most significant offerings to countries. This year, as part of our training efforts, the team conducted:
● Training on-ground in Ethiopia
● An Advanced Training Course on the OpenG2P platform for members of the Smart Zambia team
● Training for OpenG2P SIs on the ID Mapper
OpenG2P Offerings and Updates
2024 marked a milestone for OpenG2P with the first product release from the platform – the launch of SPAR 1.0.0 – The Social Payments Account Registry module, developed by OpenG2P.
OpenG2P strives to support every stage of the service delivery chain and our technology team was proud to also release G2P Bridge 1.0.0, which connects upstream MIS/Program Management to sponsor banks for cash.
Conferences and Events
2024 offered many an opportunity to attend conferences and events worldwide this year.
